Iron Age Roundhouse
Marthrown Roundhouse - sleeps up to 16.
Only 125 metres over the hill from Marthrown Bunkhouse (yet it seems like a world away) you come upon a truly awesome sight. Nestled amongst the trees in a clearing is an authentic replica of a Celtic Iron Age Roundhouse.
As part of the site there is an outdoor (but private) hot shower, a dry composting loo and urinal all set in beautiful wooden buildings.
The Roundhouse has new 5* ‘Iron Age Facilities’
We now have 2 beautiful dry composting loos up at the Roundhouse complete with electric lights!! Mike is so very proud of them (how sad!!!!!). He reckons that any Iron Age dweller would fought battles for a loo like that!
They are built in to a new little Roundhouse - we knocked the old one down and started again. It really is very pretty - Jem thatched it and gave it a heather ventilation ‘hat’. Come and try it out when you get the chance – this truly is a poo with a difference!!!!
If you truly want to live the Iron Age life there is a large wood burner which cunningly converts to an open fire in the middle of the roundhouse on which you can cook your meals or even just make a brew. However for those who want an easier life tasty home-made meals are also available to order down at the bunkhouse (advance notice required).

| “ I’m definitely a city girl at heart but I challenge anyone not to embrace nature whilst here! The night in the Roundhouse pleasantly surprised me (I nearly chickened out in favour of the bunkhouse with my double duvet!) I would definitely do it again! Drinking champagne whilst in the hot tub at night spotting shooting stars was magical. I will never forget it! The children have enjoyed their parents more relaxed attitude; the hot tub followed by the cold bucket shower but most of all toasting marshmallows round the Roundhouse fire whilst debating the best way to kill a werewolf! For groups wanting to use a sound system we ask that they book exclusive use of the yurt and camping area as well as the Roundhouse site so the music can run through the night without disturbing anybody!
