Wedding Venue and Family Glamping in South West Scotland

Runner up on 4 In A Bed

Marthrown of Mabie is a hidden gem, located very centrally within the UK, and accessible from major cities. It's reached though a woodland road, that builds anticipation. As you travel up the forest track, you feel certain that you will reach something spectacular. It does not disappoint as stunning views await. You've arrived, and you are cocooned within the forested magic of Marthrown.

A million miles from anywhere as you see far off into the horizon or gaze at the starry sky as night falls, woodland sounds are all you will hear. Unless you are here to party, and if you are no-one will know of your presence in your far-off forest wonderland, free to enjoy nature and the simpler ways of life...just be part of the woodland and respect its splendour. This is what grabs you when you enter the world of Marthrown of Mabie. It has a magical presence that offers lazy relaxation, fun or adventure.

Even in this apparent wilderness location we still have wi-fi across the whole site albeit not at urban speeds!

Reviews

Don't take our word for it!
Voted Top 10 hostels in Scotland by the Guardian Newspaper and Highly Recommended by the Scottish Outdoor Leisure Awards
We take pride in giving a great customer experience. Take a look at our reviews page to see what our customers have said about their experience at Marthrown.

You can follow google maps as far as Islesteps but after that please follow these instructions as you may end up at a locked gate!
At the end of a long stretch of road approx 1.5 mile past Islesteps turn right signposted Mabie Forest, Mabie House Hotel and Marthrown of Mabie (200yds past the Mabie Farm Park turn off).

Proceed a mile up the tarmac drive until you can see Mabie House Hotel on the right.
Take the road that bears left then immediately turn right between a wooden building (Forestry Offices) and a white building onto different coloured tarmac. You then go over a diagonal speed bump and through an open gate onto the forest track.
(Ignore the sign which says "No Unauthorised Access" - you are coming here therefore you are authorised!)

As we are in a public forest where you could encounter dog walkers, mountain bikers, children and horses please drive at 15mph or less especially at the back of the hotel where it can be busy.

Drive for half a mile up the track going straight across at the crossroads (do not be tempted to turn left - miles of forest roads to get lost in!) then a further half a mile up the hill until you reach us - the bunkhouse is on the left - the car park is on the right - additional parking available further along the track.

If you have any problems please ring on 01387 247900, 07801 517 550 or 07786 628456 and we'll talk you in.

Just wanted to say that the effort and love that the Marthrown bunch put into their area of the forest is simply amazing! We underestimated the place so upon arrival we were in awe! the Roundhouse and Tipi were beyond words and the Hot Tub and Sauna were just…

Yurt – Fantastically simple, zero impact and in today’s material world this reminds you and proves that nature still wins hands down. The non-commerciality only enhances the feel, and yet the surprise of the facilities means you can enjoy with a “treated” feeling. I am thinking how many friends I…

Gaz Shaw, Lancs

Arriving in torrential rain we changed plan and stayed 2 nights in the yurt – blissfully warm, dry and excellent value. We cooked a roast in the oven and walked in the forest. We’ll be back for a longer stay. Thanks for your kindness and welcome”

How to leave the yurt? Turn your back on it and run down the hill fast! Don’t look back – just remember it!”
